SHOULD I GET MY PET NEUTERED?
The answer is definitely YES! Neutering your male dog or cat is not only beneficial to their health and well being, but it also discourages unwanted aggressive and territorial behaviors. At Little Mountain Veterinary Clinic, we strongly urge pet owners to neuter their pets. This is the first responsible step pet owners can take in the fight against pet overpopulation.
WHAT ARE SOME OF THE ADVANTAGES OF NEUTERING MY PET?
- Neutering helps to eliminate objectionable behavior such as aggression, fighting, and urine marking, especially if done early before problems arise.
- It helps to reduce the tendency for male dogs and cats to roam away from home.
- It eliminates the risk of testicular diseases such as cancer, trauma, and infection.
- Neutering also helps to prevent many diseases of the prostate gland.
WHAT AGE SHOULD I GET MY PET NEUTERED?
At Little Mountain Veterinary Clinic, we recommend neutering your male dog or cat at the age of 6 months. This helps to maximize proper growth and development. Neutering at this point is also encouraged so as to prevent those unwanted behaviors listed above.
WILL MY PET GET FAT AFTER NEUTERING?
As we age, our metabolism slows down and we become less active. Our pets are the same way, but with proper diet and exercise, you can help your pet to maintain an ideal body weight.
WHAT AFTERCARE IS INVOLVED?
Keeping your pet quiet over the next two weeks until the sutures are removed is very important. This means strictly limiting activity to potty walks on-leas only! An Elizabethan Collar will be sent home with your pet to keep him from licking or chewing at his incision.
Little Mountain Veterinary Clinic performs neutering procedures on Tuesday and Thursday mornings and we send your pet home with you that same day! Please call (704) 489-2444 to schedule your dog or cat’s surgery today!
